Premium Domain Sales: TheMedicalSupplyStore.com
FatLester.com is pleased to announce that the premium domain name TheMedicalSupplyStore.com has sold!

Some of you veteran domainers may be questioning my use of the term “premium” to describe TheMedicalSupplyStore.com. The standard argument is that because the domain contains four words (nor four letters), and is preceded by the word “the”, that is falls short of the standards required to label a domain as premium.
Granted, all that would make such an argument are not privy to the performance record for the domain while parked with Fabulous for the past three or so years. Out of all the undeveloped domain names in my portfolio, TheMedicalSupplyStore.com has been one of my most consistent performers since the day I scooped it up after the previous registrant failed to renew it. Any domain name that can generate more revenue from parking than the amount it costs to renew each year is a good investment — even if the person who registers or buys the domain has no intention whatsoever to develop it. Well, this particular name didn’t just cover its costs, it exceeded them several times over and then some.
Think about it, this is an exact keyword-match domain name containing keywords that are as commercially viable as any. The domain would obviously make for a great fit for any online medical supply store. And in the case of this particular domain, the word “the” really isn’t much of a hindrance at all. The implication of the word “the” preceding the term “medical supply store” is that whichever medical equipment and/or supply company ultimately makes that domain its permanent home on the web is not just any online retail vendor of medical supplies. No, the name itself implies that there are no others. Instead of being Ruth’s Medical Supply Store, it’s THE Medical Supply Store. The presence of the word “the” implies that this is not one of many stores in that particular line of business, but rather the only one.
For those of you wondering what exactly a medical supply store actually sells, I’ll give you a brief rundown. Medical supplies is a term that can be used to refer to any variety of medicine and health-related products. These can include such items as wheelchairs (both of the manual variety as well as power wheelchairs and scooters), medical equipment walkers, rollators (a walkers with wheels, a seat and usually brakes), bathroom safety equipment, orthopedic braces and supports, diabetic supplies like blood-glucose monitors, lancets and test-strips, nursing supplies, sterile gloves, catheters, adult diapers, bedside commodes and far too many more to name here. I think that sampling should be sufficient to give you an idea of what sort of business would want to buy a domain name like TheMedicalSupplyStore.com.
It is because of this fact, combined with the likelihood that dozens if not hundreds of small retail businesses operate under a similar if not identical name within their respective local markets, that the domain received steady direct navigation (type-in) traffic from eager consumers ready to buy and thus ready to click advertisements on the (themed) parked domain that may lead them to an actual retailer who sells whatever it is that person happens to be looking for.
In all truth, I never really had any intention to sell that domain name. Sure, I listed it for sale in all the third-party marketplaces. But in my mind I always had planned to eventually develop it into a thriving medical equipment and supply business.
That said, given the state of the economy and the fact that the amount of serious offers I receive on a regular basis had declined sharply over the past two years, when Michelle from e-websmart.com contacted me to inform me that one of her clients was potentially interested in purchasing the domain, I was all ears.
After about a week of negotiations, we were able to agree upon a sale price that was satisfactory to both parties involved in the transaction.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Michelle for doing such a fine job of brokering the transaction. Without her, the sale of this domain name never could have taken place, or would have been far, far less likely to have been successfully completed.
What is e-websmart you may be asking? Michelle’s company specializes in web site design and development. They also offer logo design services, stationary packages and various promotional materials.
In their own words:

While I will refrain from disclosing the actual sale price, TheMedicalSupplyStore.com was among FatLester.com top domain name sales from all of 2009. With one month left in the year, there is a good chance it will finish among FatLester.com’s top-5 domain sales this year. It would certainly be nice if we were to sell another domain name sometime in the next 31 days that would top this and our other sales of premium domains from earlier this year, but given the general lethargy among buyers of premium domain names in this slow economy, it seems unlikely that that will be the case.
In any case, thanks again Michelle! I do sincerely appreciate all you did to help facilitate that transaction.

I read the article to see that sale price but heck I understand the non-disclosure.
Premium Medical Domain Name Sells at FatLester.com…
A premium medical domain name (TheMedicalSupplyStore.com) has been sold at FatLester.com, a website and blog featuring various premium domains and offering an inventory of close to 1,000 premium domain names — all of which are for sale.
This sale …
I know of a couple people who might be interested in this domain. I’ll pass this article on and see what they say.
how were you making money on it when it was “parked”?
Just because a domain makes some $$ from PPC parking doesn’t make it “Premium”. The likely hood of it getting “direct navigation” are extremely minimal. Was it getting some traffic, yes it could but they were likely coming from links and not direct navigation.
I just do not want people to get the idea of a domain name with an “extra word” like The is premium. Now if the domain was MedicalSupplyStore.com, that is a little different story.
Congrats on the sale btw.
I read about your medical supply store domain name that detailed the basic information about medical products such as wheel chairs, lift chairs and others. This will be helpful for many people.
Thanks

Interesting blog, but how can you define what makes a domain a “premium” domain? I have to agree with one of the previous comments.
